Rick Spielman spent 10 years as general manager of the Minnesota Vikings. Before becoming GM of the Vikings, he served in various other personnel roles and also had a one-year stint as GM of the Miami Dolphins.

Spielman was fired in 2022 after 16 seasons in Minnesota. He joined the media, most notably The 33rd Team. In December, Spielman joined the Washington Commanders as an adviser to owner Josh Harris in his search for the next head of football operations.

Spielman played a pivotal role in Washington’s hiring of general manager Adam Peters. However, since Peters’ arrival and the hiring of head coach Dan Quinn, we haven’t heard much from Spielman in regards to the Commanders.

Spielman is back to his media gigs, discussing free agency and the NFL draft over the past few months.

Who does he believe goes No. 2 to the Commanders?

Spielman thinks it will be North Carolina quarterback Drake Maye, not LSU’s Jayden Daniels.

Back before he was hired by Washington in his advisory role, Spielman evaluated the top quarterbacks, including Maye. He liked him. He later said he believed Maye would be drafted before Daniels.

No one should take Spielman’s opinion to the bank. Remember, he was only an advisor to Harris and is not involved with Washington’s scouting department under Peters. Still, his opinion is more informed than others in the media, including ESPN’s Adam Schefter — at least in this instance.
