Okoronkwo followed up that effort with 12 tackles for loss, 8 QB hits, 4.5 sacks and 1 pass breakup for the Browns in 2023, despite playing in only 14 games with zero starts.<\/p>\n<p>Okoronkwo suffered a pectoral injury in Week 14 against the\u00a0Jacksonville Jaguars, which the team initially expected to sideline him for the year. However, he\u00a0fought his way back into the rotation\u00a0and appeared in Cleveland\u2019s final contest of the season against the\u00a0Cincinnati Bengals\u00a0four weeks later.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI would say it was like mountains and valleys because \u2026 I was super sad, and I was preparing for my next couple of months. And then, all of a sudden, there was a glimmer of hope,\u201d\u00a0Okoronkwo told Camryn Justice of WEWS Cleveland on January 4. \u201cI\u2019m happy where I\u2019m at right now. \u2026 It felt good being around my guys, lifts my spirit.\u201d<\/p>\n<h2>Ogbo Okoronkwo Could Play Bigger Role on Browns Defense in 2024<\/h2>\n<h2><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-inline wp-image-4636089 visible aligncenter\" style=\"font-size: 16px\" src=\"https:\/\/heavy.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/12\/GettyImages-1737619273-e1702502051955.jpg?quality=65&amp;strip=all&amp;w=782\" alt=\"Cleveland Browns DE Ogbo Okoronkwo will likely miss the rest of the season with an injury.\" width=\"782\" height=\"439\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-4636089\" data-lazy-load=\"\" data-src=\"https:\/\/heavy.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/12\/GettyImages-1737619273-e1702502051955.jpg?quality=65&amp;strip=all&amp;w=782\" \/><\/h2>\n<p>The main reasons Okoronkwo didn\u2019t start any games for Cleveland\u2019s defense in 2023 were All-Pro\u00a0Myles Garrett\u00a0and three-time Pro Bowler\u00a0Za\u2019Darius Smith.<\/p>\n<p>The Browns traded with the Minnesota Vikings to acquire Smith last offseason, then reworked his contract for 2023. However, that deal is now up and Smith will officially become a free agent on March 15. He is likely to seek a multiyear deal, which may not make sense in Cleveland.<\/p>\n<p>As of Wednesday, the Browns were\u00a0nearly $14 million in the red\u00a0on their 2024 salary cap sheet and still have roster holes to fill, including a big one behind\u00a0Amari Cooper\u00a0in the wide receiver room.
