Especially if there\u2019s a way for the Giants to escape the lucrative contract they handed the struggling signal-caller last offseason. One scenario involves the quarterback being dealt within the NFC, to the\u00a0Green Bay Packers, for a pair of late-round draft picks.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s a proposal outlined by\u00a0Cory Woodroof for USA Today Sports\u2019 For The Win. The particulars of Woodroof\u2019s deal see Jones moving to Green Bay in exchange for a sixth-round pick in the 2025 NFL draft, to go with a seventh-round selection in 2026.<\/p>\n<p>If the compensation seems modest, Woodroof believes the Giants have obvious motivation to make a trade happen: \u201cWith quarterback Drew Lock on the roster, the Giants could \u2026 hypothetically \u2026 save Jones from the definite embarrassment of losing the quarterback battle in New York before it happens. They can get out of his contract with a post-June 1 trade, and Jones could take a year, back up a contending quarterback in Jordan Love, rework his mechanics and improve his game in the background and try for a new contract on the open market in 2025, where we\u2019ve seen quarterbacks like Jones get paid in the past.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>There would be benefits for Jones as well. Notably, Woodroof thinks the Packers \u201ccould rework his deal to make him one of the NFL\u2019s high-end backups.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>This scenario would also clear the path for the Giants to fully address football\u2019s most important position in next year\u2019s draft. Woodroof notes they \u201chave quarterback Tommy DeVito that can sit behind Lock to give them a plan there before, we\u2019re sure, taking a quarterback high in the 2025 NFL Draft. This feels like a win-win to us before a problem starts in the Big Apple.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>All of this is plausible, but several of the moves made by the Giants this year indicate the decision-makers are at least willing to give Jones one more chance.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h2>Daniel Jones Trade Appears Unlikely<\/h2>\n<p>The Giants have surely considered ways to escape the obligations of Jones\u2019 four-year, $160-million contract. Especially after the way he struggled with turnovers and injuries last season.<\/p>\n<p>Jones tossing\u00a0six interceptions, taking 30 sacks\u00a0and suffering a season-ending torn ACL made the new deal seem like an albatross. Yet, while the terms handed to Jones appear a misguided gamble, they are precisely why No. 8 will likely get one more season to prove his worth.<\/p>\n<p>The Giants are on the hook to Jones, so general manager Joe Schoen and head coach Brian Daboll need him to make the grade. While Jones\u2019 stock has fallen, there\u2019s reason to back improvement, according to\u00a0ESPN\u2019s Jordan Raanan.<\/p>\n<p>He responded to QB rankings from\u00a0NFL on CBS\u00a0that placed Jones last among 32 starters. Raanan pointed out how Jones \u201cCame three TD passes shy of the then-rookie record in 2019. Was almost perfect in a playoff win 16 months ago.\u201d<\/p>\n<div id=\"a0bba63c3a57ebd6a3e3412e7470b4a9\" data-url=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/JordanRaanan\/status\/1788333221857435951\">\n<blockquote data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">The Daniel Jones slander is out of control. Came three TD passes shy of the\u2026\u00a0https:\/\/t.co\/Y8Y4wI0mMC<\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Jordan Raanan (@JordanRaanan)\u00a0May 8, 2024<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<\/div>\n<p>Jones can get back to the form Raanan remembers fondly if he makes the most of the reinforcements added around him this offseason.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h2>Giants Have Improved Daniel Jones\u2019 Supporting Cast<\/h2>\n<p>The Giants deciding to draft\u00a0Malik Nabers\u00a0with the sixth-overall pick\u00a0was welcomed by\u00a0Jones because it gives him the legitimate go-to wide receiver he\u2019s been lacking. Nabers\u2019 ability to unleash field-stretching speed from anywhere will turn even mediocre throws from Jones into big plays.<\/p>\n<p>He\u2019ll lean on Nabers, but Jones can also count on\u00a0Wan\u2019Dale Robinson\u00a0for yards-after-catch potential. As\u00a0CBS Sports\u2019 Dan Schneier\u00a0highlighted, Robinson\u2019s threat will increase with Nabers on the field.<\/p>\n<div id=\"e4f32f34f90aee28837532aa22e979ff\">\n<article>The\u00a0#Giants\u00a0player who should benefit most from Malik Nabers\u2019 addition is Wan\u2019Dale Robinson.<br \/>\nHe\u2019s going to have a lot more space to work with (more attention on Nabers) &amp; now one year removed from the ACL, we\u2019re going to see a lot more post-catch plays that look like this:<\/article>\n<\/div>\n<p>A swifter receiver corps isn\u2019t the only reason to expect an upturn from Jones.<\/p>\n<p>The Giants also wisely retooled the offensive line by signing guard\u00a0Jon Runyan Jr.\u00a0and right tackle\u00a0Jermaine Eluemunor\u00a0in free agency. Both will help new line coach Carmen Bricillo bolster a unit that didn\u2019t give Jones, nor any other Giants\u2019 QB, a chance to thrive last season.<\/p>\n<p>Of course, it\u2019s entirely possible another passer on the roster could benefit from these changes in personnel more than Jones. Backup\u00a0Drew Lock\u00a0is already\u00a0expected to compete, while the Giants have also added a\u00a0109-touchdown, dual-threat\u00a0quarterback from the\u00a0New England Patriots.<\/p>\n<p>Taking a pair of draft picks for Jones might allow the Giants to walk away from his contract fiasco quietly.
