Steelers QB Coach Mike Sullivan Misses Out on Raiders OC Job Again

Pittsburgh Steelers quarterbacks coach Mike Sullivan has lost out on the Las Vegas Raiders offensive coordinator position for the second time in a week.

The Raiders are now apparently set to hire former Chicago Bears offensive coordinator and Munhall native Luke Getsy, according to a report by Albert Breer of Sports Illustrated.

Steelers QB Coach Mike Sullivan Misses Out on Raiders OC Job Again

The Raiders had first seemed to settle on former Arizona Cardinals head coach Kliff Kingsbury, but then Kingsbury backed away from the job on Saturday, seemingly throwing Sullivan, Washington Commanders offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy and former Houston Texans offensive coordinator Pep Hamilton back into the mix.

Instead, the Raiders have settled on Getsy, who was with the Bears in 2022 and 2023 after spending most of his coaching career as the quarterbacks coach for the Green Bay Packers.

It’s not clear what happens with Sullivan now. The Steelers could bring him back as quarterbacks coach, or the team could reach a mutual parting of ways to avoid any awkwardness between Sullivan and his new boss, Arthur Smith.

It’s assumed that Smith will want to bring in at least some of his own staff members, but the only vacancy created so far this offseason on the offensive side of the ball has been the departure of analyst Glenn Thomas.

The Steelers interviewed three potential candidates for a passing-game coordinator position, which would be a new role on the coaching staff, on Saturday. Los Angeles Chargers passing game specialist Tom Arth, New York Jets wide receivers coach Zach Azzani and Tennessee Titans passing game coordinator and quarterbacks coach Charles London have been identified as candidates.

Getsy was another on our list of potential candidates for such a job. Hamilton, who interviewed with the Steelers for their offensive coordinator job in 2021, is as well.
