Opening Day is weeks away and Jordan Montgomery and Blake Snell remain free agents.
Their agent, Scott Boras, gave an update on the pitchers on Monday. According to Bob Nightengale of USA Today, Boras said four new teams have reached out about Snell and Montgomery since the start of spring training.
Snell has been linked to the Angels, Giants, Phillies and Yankees among others this offseason while Montgomery had been frequently connected to the Red Sox and Rangers. And now Boras is saying that these past few weeks have brought about new suitors for his clients — if we are to believe him … after all, his job is to drive up the prices for his players.
Nightengale reported Sunday that the belief among MLB executives is that Snell will land with the Angels or Giants and that Montgomery will sign with Boston.
Montgomery put up a 3.20 ERA over 188 2/3 innings between the Cardinals and Rangers last year and helped Texas to the World Series. He previously spent six seasons with the Yankees before he was traded to St. Louis in 2022 for outfielder Harrison Bader.
Snell, 31, made 32 starts for the Padres last season and posted a 2.25 ERA while striking out 234 batters.
