Report: Philadelphia Eagles to hire Kellen Moore as new offensive coordinator

The Philadelphia Eagles are reportedly hiring former Los Angeles Chargers and Dallas Cowboys offensive coordinator Kellen Moore to the same role, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

“Another big assistant move in Philadelphia: Eagles are hiring former Chargers and Cowboys offensive coordinator Kellen Moore as their offensive coordinator, per sources,” Schefter wrote on Twitter. “Eagles coordinators now will be Moore and Vic Fangio.”

The Eagles were previously trending to hire Moore after parting ways with Brian Johnson as their OC.

Moore led the Los Angeles offense to a 25th-place finish in points scored per game this season with 20.4 ppg. The Chargers’ 5-12 record this season included wins against the Vikings, Raiders, Bears, Jets and Patriots.

As offensive coordinator for the Cowboys, a job he took over in 2019, Moore led the team to top six finishes in points per game in three of four seasons as offensive coordinator. The Cowboys also finished No. 1 in yards per game in 2021 and 2019.

Dallas and head coach Mike McCarthy opted to send the OC packing after the 2022 season in favor of calling plays himself.

Moore and Fangio are the new offensive and defensive coordinators in Philadelphia under head coach Nick Sirianni. Schefter previously reported if Sirianni were to return in 2024, there’d be changes on both sides of the football.

The defensive end of things was wild for Eagles’ fans. Sean DeSai was demoted from his DC position and Matt Patricia became the de facto defensive coordinator in the final quarter of the regular season.

The defense saw no improvements and in fact, you could argue it got worse. The lackluster approach from Sirianni’s offense wasn’t a good sign either.

Johnson received criticism and it remains to be seen where he’ll be in 2024. He also received numerous head coaching interviews this cycle.

Sirianni is 34-17 in three seasons with the Eagles and has a 2-3 playoff record. He’s led Philadelphia to the playoffs each season of his tenure, including Super Bowl LVII last year.

Philadelphia lost 38-35 to the Kansas City Chiefs, putting 2023 as a boom or bust year for the Eagles.
