While Russell Wilson’s time with the Denver Broncos has continued to drag along since the beginning of the 2024 offseason, this chapter of quarterback unrest looks to be getting put to rest very soon.
According to league insider Diana Russini of The Athletic, the Broncos don’t seem to be anticipating keeping Wilson around for much longer, and expected to cut him from the roster in the coming days.
The Broncos made it very clear the Russell Wilson chapter will be over soon. Around the league, people believe Denver will cut him by next week.
Sean Payton spoke on Wednesday with the media that a decision would be made in “the next two weeks” on the future of Wilson with the Broncos. Now, many around the league are beginning to pick up that Denver will likely waste no time cutting ties with Russ once the NFL Scouting Combine ends.
During his second season in the orange and blue, Russ posted 3,070 passing yards, 26 touchdowns, and eight picks on a 66.4% completion rate. After consistent friction lingered between him and Sean Payton across the year and totaling a 7-8 regular season record with Russ as a starter, Denver has made it clear that they feel better off parting ways with Wilson rather than giving it a third try.
When it comes to predicting where Wilson could end up for next season, recent betting odds have pinned the Pittsburgh Steelers as the favorite to land the former Super Bowl-winning quarterback, but it remains fluid as we’re still within the beginning stages of this offseason. Other QB-needy teams like the Las Vegas Raiders and Atlanta Falcons are other potential suitors that could arise and eventually jump into the race.
As we approach the coming week, expect some big news to drop on Wilson’s status in the Mile High.
