The 2023 version of the New York Jets did not go as planned, especially on the offensive side of the ball but that isn’t going to stop them from doubling down on the coaching staff and the coaching philosophy.

The New York Jets already decided to bring back all three coordinators as well as offensive line coach Keith Carter and passing game coordinator Todd Downing, much to the dismay of some of the players on the team.

Both Downing and Carter were former Tennessee Titans offensive assistants prior to their arrival in New York, and now the Jets seem to be shopping the Titan castoff bin again.

Recently, the Jets decided to hire Tony Dews as the teams running backs coach to replace the recently departed Taylor Embree. Dews is another former Tennessee Titans assistant coach who finds himself in search of new employment after the Titans decided to part ways with Mike Vrabel.

The Jets are also interviewing Rob Moore to be their wide receivers coach, even though their current coach at that position, Zach Azzanni is still under contract. And who was Rob Moore an assistant last for last season? You guessed it. The Tennessee Titans.

This is the same Rob Moore out of Syracuse University that was drafted in the first round of the supplemental draft back in 1990 by the Jets.

Head Scratching Decisions
The first thing you need to do when you are trying to get yourself out of a hole, is put down the shovel, and this appears to be a lesson the Jets refuse to learn.

The Jets already have two too many former Titans coaches on the staff. Both Carter and Downing should have been fired at the end of the season for simply failing at their job. Now the Jets are doubling down on their bad decisions and bringing in two more coaches from an equally bad offense.

What have the Jets seen from any of these coaches to make them believe they are the answer? The former Titans coaches they have are openly mocked on social media by the players and the ones they are bringing in have a resume that would be laughed out of some division III college programs.

The fact that Dews coached Derrick Henry isn’t a testament to his coaching ability, but rather a shield for it. Derrick Henry’s freakish ability isn’t reason to bring on his coach. It is easy to coach running backs when you can tell a guy to run through tackles, and he has the ability to do just that.

And who could forget all the super star wide receivers the Titans have had over the past few seasons? You can’t remember any? Because there wasn’t any. There wasn’t really any good ones or even promising developmental projects for a coach like Moore to hang his hat on.

Yet here are the Jets, looking to poach from one terrible coaching staff to add to their own terrible coaching staff.

Bringing back Moore would be a nice story, but stories are for the off-season. During the season most fans and players could care less about the story and more about the results. The results are something we have seen very little of with these coaches.

These are the decisions that will get Saleh and Douglas fired.
