The closer we get to the 2024 NFL Draft, the more the buzz continues to grow that the NY Giants could look to draft a new star signal-caller. Are Daniel Jones’ days as the quarterback of the future numbered for the G-Men? We’ll know more this spring.
However, if Joe Schoen does decide to go after a quarterback, Caleb Williams, Drake Maye and Jayden Daniels will be the three guys Giants Nation hopes he goes after. J.J. McCarthy? Not so much. With word dropping that the Giants recently met with McCarthy and showed interest in him, a lot of folks are a bit worried.
The Giants drafting JJ McCarthy in the first round would be a huge mistake
No disrespect to McCarthy, but come on, there’s simply no way the Giants can even think about using the No. 6 overall pick on him. In our opinion, he’s a Day 2 pick, not a prospect who should be hearing his name called on draft night.
McCarthy is a proven winner, we’ll give him that. This past season for Michigan, the youngster powered the Wolverines and Jim Harbaugh to a perfect 15-0 record, highlighted of course by the National Championship Game win over the Washington Huskies.

Michigan QB J.J. McCarthy recently had positive discussions with the Las Vegas Raiders and New York Giants.
Both expressed interest in him and said he carries a 1st Round grade.

In that victory over UW, McCarthy completed 10-of-18 passes for 140 yards and no touchdowns. That stat line alone should be eye-opening, but not in a good way. In the semifinal showdown against Alabama, McCarthy tossed for 221 yards and three touchdowns, which was great to see.
Having said that, we just don’t see the Michigan product as the kind of superstar playmaker that the Giants could be getting if they made a move to select Williams or Maye – the hope is Daniels could be available at No. 6 still too. McCarthy could go on to prove us wrong, but for now, we’re going to be praying to the Football Gods that Schoen doesn’t touch him with a 10-foot pole come April 25.
