The Denver Broncos seem like they will be moving on from veteran quarterback Russell Wilson this offseason after benching him for the last remaining games of the 2023 season. Wilson has been struggling to find the success he had with the Seattle Seahawks since coming to Denver, which has led many fans and analysts to believe that the quarterback will be with a new squad in 2024. While there are a few different options to Broncos organization can take, one proposal has the team signing a former first-round pick quarterback to replace Wilson.
Denver Broncos Sign First-Round Pick Quarterback?
While Wilson’s options in free agency are currently limited, Broncos insider Sayre Bedinger has an interesting trade proposal that would have New England Patriots quarterback Mac Jones replace Wilson in Denver.
Say what you will about Mac Jones, but his ability to get rid of the ball quickly and play in an offense that is predicated on rhythm, timing, and tempo?
Well, that screams ‘Sean Payton‘ to me. I wouldn’t be surprised in the slightest if the Denver Broncos made a move for Mac Jones and put him in a ‘better’ overall situation.

While Jones has struggled in his young career, analysts believe that he can thrive with a team like Denver whose offense operates with Jones’ strengths. The Patriots quarterback is likely done in New England after he was benched in 2023 and replaced by Bailey Zappe. According to the report, it is not out of the question for Payton to take a chance on a first-round pick like Jones, who is still young and has plenty of time to learn under a new system that seems to benefit him more.

While nothing has been set in stone, this would likely mean that Wilson would play in New England, which needs a veteran presence to mentor their young squad. Do you think Jones will be traded to the Broncos to replace Wilson, or will the team decide to try and draft a quarterback in the draft?
