Daniel Jones’ injury history reportedly could be the reason Giants move on from him in near future despite $160 million contract

It has only been 12 months since Daniel Jones signed a four-year, $160 million deal with the New York Giants. However, his injury crisis has the Giants’ management second-guessing their starting quarterback for the next season.

The Giants’ front office got to work and held a meeting with Russell Wilson before the veteran set foot in Pittsburgh. Later, they poached Drew Lock from the Seattle Seahawks, but he will be the backup quarterback for the franchise.

New York Giants reportedly 'contemplating' moving on from Daniel Jones in 2024 for this reason

Daniel Jones is the starter for this team. That has been conveyed to me. Lock said during his first press conference as a Blue.
However, the recent activity of coach Brian Daboll and general manager Joe Schoen suggests that they are in the hunt for another (possibly new franchise) quarterback. Daboll recently attended USC’s Pro Day to watch Caleb Williams. Moreover, they even invited both UNC’s Drake Maye and Michigan’s JJ McCarthy for a visit to East Rutherford, New Jersey.

However, it’s unlikely the Giants will acquire Williams or Jayden Daniels. They currently hold the No. 6 pick in the NFL Draft, which projects that McCarthy will be the one falling into their laps. But that’s still a massive if because all five teams ahead of them require a quarterback. If all of them decide to pick one, then their only option would be to trade back and hope for either Bo Nix or Michael Penix Jr.

The only reason the Giants are in a bind is because of Daniel Jones‘ sketchy injury history. ,

Jones’ injury history is what has the team contemplating moving on. He has [had] two neck injuries and a torn ACL in the past three years. That would be risky to build around. ESPN‘s Jordan Raanan wrote
Brian Daboll clarified whether Daniel Jones will be the Giants’ starter in 2024
Amidst all the chatter about the New York Giants potentially moving on from Jones, head coach Daboll came out and said that he has faith in the Duke graduate. Daboll said he is happy to have Drew Lock, but Jones will remain their starting quarterback.

We’re excited to have Drew [Lock], and he knows what his role is going to be. He’s going to get a lot of reps this spring; he needs to learn our system, but he’s excited to get Daniel [Jones] back. When he gets back, he’ll be the guy. Daboll said, as per the NFL network’s Mike Garafolo
If that’s really the case, then Jones possibly won’t start in Week 1. He is still recovering from the ACL injury.

Unlike the last few seasons, Saquon Barkley won’t be on the field to save his blushes. The dynamic running back left to join rivals the Philadelphia Eagles earlier this month.
