Cubs’ Star Prospect Says He Wants Bellinger Back With Team

Another Chicago Cubs player has voiced his opinion about the free agency surrounding Cody Bellinger.

Chicago Cubs' Star Prospect Says He Wants Cody Bellinger Back With Team - Sports Illustrated Inside The Cubs

At this point in the offseason, it feels like it’s “Cody Bellinger or Bust” for the Chicago Cubs.

They’ve been linked to him since the moment the year ended, and despite being seemingly not willing to meet his asking price, insiders have continued to say the slugger will likely end up with the Cubs again.

It’s been surprising that Chicago hasn’t pursued the Comeback Player of the Year more vigorously.

They need power in their lineup and are looking for bats who can hit against right-handed pitchers, both things that Bellinger does.

A few Cubs players have voiced how they want the slugger back with the team in 2024 and their superstar prospect has thrown his name into that hat as well.

“But, I want him to come back. I just like him as a human being and as a teammate,” Pete Crow-Armstrong said according to Jordan Bastian of MLB.com.

When the rookie was called up by Chicago last year, Bellinger reportedly spent time and worked with him in the batting cages.

The former MVP could have been cold to Crow-Armstrong when he joined the team. After all, the star prospect is expected to be the center fielder of the future and Bellinger needed a big year to show other teams he can still be an everyday Major League player.

If the Cubs do decide to reunite with the slugger, it calls into question what roles each of these players will have in 2024.

Whatever role Crow-Armstrong has next season, he’s willing to play it if Chicago is able to win baseball games.

“I’m here to win. And if Cody Bellinger is gonna do that and help us make that happen, then he should be here. That’s how I feel. It doesn’t affect what I do,” he said.

The Cubs could certainly use Bellinger in their lineup and clubhouse. He’d continue to be a mentor to some of the young players who get called up.

Crow-Armstrong would certainly enjoy having him back.
