Former Bears Exec Hearing OC Target Shane Waldron Is Considered A Stud

The Chicago Bears are making a change at offensive coordinator. Fans pretty much saw it coming. While Luke Getsy managed to produce a quality run game the past two years, he never got similar results from the passing attack. His inability to adjust during games and lack of situational awareness also contributed to his demise. GM Ryan Poles and head coach Matt Eberflus intend to find a replacement, seeking somebody who can succeed where Getsy failed. It is perhaps notable that their first interview request went to Seattle Seahawks offensive coordinator Shane Waldron.

Former Bears Exec Hearing OC Target Shane Waldron Is Considered A Stud

Nobody expected him to be available. The sudden exit of Pete Carroll as head coach opened the door. Waldron has been at the helm up there for three years and found success. Russell Wilson had his last good season under his watch in 2021. Then, the young coach topped himself by getting over 4,000 yards and 30 touchdowns from Geno Smith in 2022. Former Bears scouting director Greg Gabriel has a friend in Seattle close to the situation. He reached out to see if he could get some details about Waldron.

The answer he got back was more than a little enticing. Gabriel revealed it on the Barroom Network.

Shane Waldron comes from a prolific coaching background.
He got his start in New England, learning under Bill Belichick. From there, he found his way out west, where he served under Sean McVay for several seasons, rising to become their passing game coordinator. Wilson urged the Seahawks to bring him north in 2021. Over the past three years, his offense has averaged a healthy 22.86 points per game, with his quarterbacks throwing 75 touchdowns to only 26 interceptions. If Seattle’s defenses weren’t so consistently bad during that period, they would’ve had far more postseason success.

It is never bad to hear a young coach is highly respected and loved by players. Shane Waldron has a strong track record, play calling experience and has been trained by some of the best coaches in the business. He is a far cry from what the Bears tried with Getsy. It will be interesting to see how his interview with the team goes. While his resume is strong, sometimes it is about whether a guy clicks with the head coach. If Eberflus likes what he hears, things could come together quickly.
