Former Ravens’ RB Gus Edwards reached agreement on a two-year deal with the Chargers, per source. Edwards now will be reuniting with former Ravens and current Chargers assistant Greg Roman.

Edwards has only reached an agreement with the Chargers and has yet to sign a deal because he can only sign something once the new league year begins on Wednesday.

Edwards was never supposed to be the starting running back in his five years in Baltimore, but he always seemed to be the guy due to other players going down. Last season, Edwards stepped up in a big way when starter J. K. Dobbins tore his Achilles in Week One, and Edwards had to be the main guy in the backfield.
Edwards had a career year of rushing for 810 yards and 13 touchdowns, and now he will be heading to play for his former head coaches Brother.
Ravens head coach John Harbaugh’s brother Jim is now the Chargers’ new head coach, so Edwards will pass from one brother to the other.
Edwards also reunites with his former offensive coordinator, Greg Roman, who is now the offensive coordinator with the Chargers. Roman was the Ravens’ offensive coordinator for Edwards’s first four seasons in the NFL, so he will be going back to a very familiar face.
Chargers star running back Austin Ekeler is a free agent and doesn’t look to be returning to the team, so Edwards could be the starter in Los Angeles next season. If not, he will see much work as running back two.
Edwards is a true pro and is an excellent pickup for the Chargers. It could be a beneficial piece to quarterback Justin Herbert and the rest of the offense.
