Cowboys’ Micah Parsons reveals he had personnel conversation with Jerry Jones

While the Kansas City Chiefs and San Francisco 49ers battled it out in an epic Super Bowl LVIII that went for five full quarters of football, two significant characters of the Dallas Cowboys watched the action from a suite while talking football themselves.

However, the conversation gravitated toward their own team rather than the game being played on the gridiron beneath them. Micah Parsons (who keeps making offseason headlines whether it’s through dominating basketball or because of his podcast) and Jerry Jones instead discussed how they could get to the big game themselves next year.

Cowboys' Micah Parsons reveals he had personnel conversation with Jerry Jones

Parsons revealed on The Stephen A. Smith Show that they even talked personnel when Jones sent him four extra tickets to his Super Bowl suite.

“We just sit and talk from before the game until the whole half about players I want to bring in, players I want to be around, who do I need, who do I want to be with, future of our team,” Parsons told the famous ESPN personality. “And that’s just dope to have that type of feedback with an owner that you know loves to hear your ideas and what you think and where the team can be.”

Parsons praised Jones for his willingness to openly talk about the team’s future, admitting both have talked for two to three hours at a time before, as well. During their conversation, everything seems to be on the table judging by Parsons’ recent comments.

That includes Parsons lobbying for adding specific body types to the roster for the Cowboys to go further in the playoffs. Micah went in-depth into his opinion about the defensive personnel needed to improve.

“So I told Jerry, I said, ‘Look at every team that was in that final four. Who did they have? (…) Who did Baltimore have? A great linebacker core, right? Who did San Francisco have? A great linebacker core. Kansas City? (Nick) Bolton, and they came along.’ I said, ‘We need to get another bigger linebacker who’s going to come downhill.’ And I said ‘we need to get a super 330-pound nasty interior (defensive lineman).”

Although the Cowboys drafted Mazi Smith in the first round of the 2023 NFL Draft, he didn’t truly fulfill such a role after the coaching staff asked him to drop weight to be a better pass rusher.

Parsons’ rightfully pointed out the need for a bigger presence in the trenches.

“Look at how Arik Armstead, Javon Hargrave, wreak havoc. And you know, the last two games. Look at how Alim McNeil, Detroit, and their front with Hutchinson and all them,” Parsons added. “You know, it’s just certain things I was pinpointing we can build in this because we’re slim. Like we have guys and I think Osa (Odighizuwa) has been great for us but we just need a big old 330, can’t-move (player) because I saw the way Chris Jones affected that Super Bowl and I was like, my God, like you need a big boy.”

In a year in which the Cowboys have claimed they’re going all-in, Parsons hasn’t been shy. Earlier this offseason, the two-time First-Team All-Pro pointed out the team didn’t add the players it lacked in 2023. Now, he’s revealing his input for Jones in public.

Best case scenario, Parsons’ advice is put to the test in free agency. Worst case, it makes it even more painful when the Cowboys approach things business as usual down the road.
