Chiefs’ Chris Jones name-drops cowboys’ Micah Parsons, calls out officiating

The Kansas City Chiefs took care of business in a rare Super Wild Card appearance, beating the Miami Dolphins 26-7 on January 13. But Chris Jones was still dialed into football the next day, watching the Dallas Cowboys host the Green Bay Packers. During the games, Cowboys’ star Micah Parsons drew his first holding call in three months after plenty of commentary from the player about the matter.

To Jones, Parsons’ method was effective.

“I’m going to start tweeting like Micah parson [sic] to finally get holding calls,” Jones said in a post on X, formerly Twitter, on January 14.

Chiefs Star Chris Jones ‘Sick’ of Stat-Keepers
Several fans on social media would agree with the Chiefs’ one-time All-Pro, two-time Super Bowl champion, and three-time Pro Bowler, noting as much during and in the wake of the win over Miami.

Jones was credited with one half-sack in the contest, which he contested.

“I’m so sick of them doing that,” Jones said via James Palmer of NFL Network. “I’m telling you right now, this is the third time that they gave this guy half of my sack, stop it! I was there, I had him wrapped up, it’s my sack!”

Jones congratulated teammate George Karlaftis, who received credit for the other half of that sack. He and the rest of the defense delivered in the fourth-coldest game on record.

“In defense I trust,” a visibly chilled Jones said. “In [Defensive Coordinator Steve] Spagnuolo I trust.”

The Chiefs defense ranked second in scoring and yards allowed this season. That would make them a safer bet than the typically explosive offense that was uncharacteristically mediocre this season, ranking ninth in yards gained and 15th in points scored. Those are their lowest rankings since 2016 and 2014, respectively.

Mecole Hardman Gets Unflattering Comparison to Tyreek Hill
While Jones was able to laugh off the lost full sack, some of his teammates were under fire for their in-game mishaps. And it was directed in an all-too-familiar direction.

Former Chiefs star Tyreek Hill caught five passes for 62 yards and a score. The touchdown drew plenty of attention on social media, in part because current K.C. wideout Mecole Hardman had an opportunity earlier in the game that fans felt he didn’t capitalize on.

Hardman finished with one reception for three yards.

It’s been a rough season for Chiefs receivers. But rookie Rashee Rice stepped up with eight receptions for 130 yards and two touchdowns.

Chiefs Await Playoff Fate
The Chiefs have to wait an extra day to find out who their opponent for the Divison Round will be. New York Governor Kathy Hochul announced the decision made in concert with NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell.

Hochul lifted some of the travel bans, with the game expected to proceed as planned.

The Chiefs will either visit the No. 2 seeded Bills or host the Steelers, the No. 7 seed.

They did not play the Steelers during the regular season. But they did face the Bills, losing 20-17 at home in Arrowhead Stadium in Week 14. Buffalo is also rolling, winning five straight and six of their last seven games coming into the showdown with Pittsburgh.
