Giants Rumors: Top NY QB target emerges if Joe Schoen trades up

It’s officially NFL Draft week. After months of speculation, NY Giants general manager Joe Schoen is going to be on the clock at No. 6 overall and fans are hoping that a new stud wide receiver makes his way to town. However, could Schoen have something else in mind for the offense?NFL Combine

For a while now, rumors have been flying that Schoen is going to find a long-term Daniel Jones replacement in the draft. In a new piece from ESPN’s Jordan Raanan, his sources are telling him that one quarterback prospect has risen above the rest on Schoen’s wishlist. That’d be North Carolina signal-caller Drake Maye.

“There is a strong belief by some in the league that Maye is the Giants’ guy. Perhaps it has to do with him being the most similar to Daboll’s former pupil, Allen. Maye is the one who could force New York to mortgage part of its future in order to address the most important position on the roster. He also could benefit from sitting a year behind Daniel Jones.”

Maye has been linked to the G-Men for quite some time, but the exact same could be said for Jayden Daniels and J.J. McCarthy. While it’d be a dream for Schoen to make something happen for Caleb Williams, it’s not going to happen, as the USC standout will be Chicago-bound.

Looking at Maye, he’s coming off a superb season for North Carolina and he only helped his draft stock this offseason. The Giants and Schoen are big fans of his game, but come the first round, we’ll find out just how big of an admirer Schoen is of his game.

The Giants would likely have to move up to either No. 3 or No. 4 to land Maye, as a lot of people think Jayden Daniels will be the pick for the Commanders at No. 2. Moving up would obviously include the No. 6 overall pick, plus future picks as well.

Schoen has said the Giants are more than a player or two away from getting to the level of play they desire, which could hint he doesn’t want to lose draft capital. However, if Schoen isn’t sold on Jones being his guy for the long haul, then he could do whatever is needed to go after Maye during the draft.
